NATION BRANDING
dr Dorota Kokowicz
Course description:
Countries do not only compete with each other using material resources, infrastructure and attractive tax system. Today their success also depends on their reputation and awareness as Simon Anholt said: "in the modern world, the factor of national reputation is becoming more and more significant”.
In order to build their position on the international market countries use methods and tools known by companies. Strong image is strategically important not only for companies but also for countries - it determines their international position and development, but also has an impact on perception of everything related to them, e.g. products, services, places, etc. Therefore, it is important to strengthen nation brand and build its competitive advantage continually, which seems to be impossible without a coherent program of promotion based on analysis and researches.
The aim of the course is to present both theoretical and practical aspects of nation branding in such areas as e.g.: foreign policy, culture, tourism and economy. During the course we will focus on good and bad practices affecting nation brand as well as try to answer the question about effectiveness of nation branding in case of Poland. At the end of the course students will understand why countries should care about their reputation and be able to indicate the most important factors that have an impact on it.
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
dr Radosław Kożuszek
Course description:
The aim of the course is to present students with issues related to photography and creating an image in photography. During the first part of the course, students learn about the history of photography. Then cameras, lenses and photographic equipment needed to take photos in the studio and outdoors will be presented. These classes will be theoretical and practical in nature and their aim will be to teach students the basics of using semi-professional cameras. The classes will include: issues related to light in photography, automatic and manual shooting modes, memory cards, recording formats and archiving photographs.
COMMUNICATION IN BUSINESS AND IN PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY
dr hab. Michał Garcarz, prof. UWr
Course description:
To successfully proceed with challenges in any today’s business and/or professional endeavor, one has to find, understand, and learn language means and techniques of efficient communication leading to achieving the aimed goals, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, the same ‘one’ has to minimize the threat of derailing communication as such. Today’s social studies, psychology and neurolinguistics still lack accurate instruments which would bring us closer to answering the question: “how to avoid miscommunication” (?), and so,
we should pay a greater attention to communication obstacles and barriers, as well as to our personal business communication weaknesses to effectively send our message through to the desired addressee(s).
Professional communication is never individual; this is a group/team activity and in the end it usually takes the binary form: “either” vs. “or”: to cooperate (“to win”) or to confront (“to win not”) with others. This course will cover various professional and business communication
issues, such as i.e. language strategies, team building and maintaining good interpersonal relations, conducting negotiations, finding ways of assessing and motivating people in organization, time management, and business etiquette which are essential for business people to find their way around the communication “jams” in professional activity.
