Towards development of the mediatization research III

On 15 November 2019 in Wroclaw a specialization seminar Towards development of the mediatization research III took place. The workshop was organized by the Institute of Journalism and Social Communication and the Academia Europaea Wroclaw Knowledge Hub. This year it was led by Andreas Hepp from the University of Bremen.

Professor Andreas Hepp is a member of the Academia Europaea, affiliated to the Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research (ZeMKI) at the University of Bremen. His main research areas are: media theory and communication, mediatization, intercultural communication, cross-media practices and datafication. He is the author of, among others, "The Mediated Construction of Reality". (with Nick Couldry, Polity 2016), “Transcultural Communication" (Wiley 2015), “Culture of Mediatization” (Polity 2013) and "Deep Mediatization" (Routledge 2020).

The closed meeting was started with the lecture on deep mediatization by an invited expert. This year, the main theme of presentations was datafication and digital media. Presented projects concentrated on mediatization of public sphere, journalistic practices, religion, sport, childhood, family life. This year's meeting was attended by researchers representing universities from Great Britain, Australia, Poland, Russia, Romania and Estonia.

The main idea behind the seminars is to create an opportunity for a closed meeting of mediatization researchers and an intensive exchange of opinions, resulting from the prior preparation on the basis of materials sent by all participants. During the meeting, feedback and consultations dominate, while speeches or presentations are kept to a minimum.
